Come Follow Me The creation Lesson and discussion in Gospel Doctrine January 18th 2026

From the Come Follow Me manual we begin our study-

Possibly to understand the WHY behind His works, to become creators ourselves we need to understand the principles applied and we can gain great strength and succor in (sometimes very clumsy) efforts to create something beautiful out of unorganized matter by understanding the grand scope of patience and love our creator extends to us.

Some of the comments in class included finding nature to be a place of refuge and inspiration, the temple appointment we make and keep, quieting our minds by playing soft instrumental music and essentially sending an invitation to the Lord that we are intentional about co-creating with Him, that we are ready to receive inspiration.

Discussion built around how we are being encouraged to have these councils often.

The biggest enemy to best is the better things in our lives. What are some strategies we can use to discern what is the best use of our time? One comment was made that just because we can and its a good thing doesn’t mean we should. All things come at a cost- what is it costing us? Do we spend time on a good project at the expense of our family’s care? Are we humble enough to let some things go that bring us gratification in order to do the best things? Can we reframe some of the things we must do (but maybe don’t enjoy as much) into a act of love and joyous creation? ie: cleaning out a childs closet can bring much needed order, is certainly a creative process and can bring us joy when we reframe it this way.

Educating ourselves is vital in our ability to be sucessfull at creating something. That education sought prior to beginning and can be gained as we begin taking creative steps in faith.

One of the most joyous moments in creation had to be when light was introduced. Let us remember to include the source of all light, Jesus Christ, in all our creative efforts!

How does your creative effort require patience and how does it bring you joy?

How does the creation of man bless the following creation- women and subsequently their children?

Early christian translators assumed because of Eve’s perceived “transgression” that Adam was meant to rule over her. In that vien of thinking we can see how the worldy definition of men presiding (being the leader, the final voice, having dominion etc…)became common Christian theology and teaching. LDS doctrine teaches us differently.

After each phase of creation God gave his approval- that it was good.

That is until man was created. What was not good?

IT WAS NOT GOOD FOR MAN TO BE ALONE.

In the ancient Hebrew text, the word that is rendered rib never actually means rib in any other transltion of the word. The translation of rib came from the greek syncophaint. If you trace back to the root word originally used in the text you will find the word Tsela.
